PART I

A week after the violent post-election crisis in Kenya exploded onto the global stage, there is an emerging consensus among progressive, patriotic and democratically minded Kenyans:

1. Kibaki and his PNU cronies stole the Presidential election using the Electoral Commission of Kenya, and it should be underscored, the police, the paramilitary and other coercive organs of the state;

2. What we have in the country today is the reality of a civilian coup with increasingly fascist tendencies as can be evidenced by massive presence of the police and the paramilitary in the Kenyan capital and the fact that it is often Police Commissioner Major-General Hussein Ali and the Chief Propagandist, Dr. Alfred Mutua who are the visible expression of government policy;

3. Mwai Kibaki’s credibility as a would be elder statesman is forever tarnished and his credentials as a "reformer" and "democrat" shattered to smithereens;

4. The poor and other elements of the lumpen elements de classe have turned their anger on each other reducing the conflict to crude tribal terms as they simultaneously hunt the “evil ethnic other” and cower from the same; unless stanched and nipped in the bud, the ethnicized violence poses immediate and long term threats to the very notion of Kenya;

5. That the business and professional elite as well as other sections of the comprador/petit bourgeoisie, rattled by the financial ramifications of the current unrest are desperate to restore an element of “stability” and social control by bombarding Kenyans, via the air waves and media channels of the need for a “peace” which is not necessarily anchored in justice or democracy;

6. The major players in the capitals of capital- from Condoleeza Rice at the US State Department, to David Miliband the British Foreign Secretary to their counterparts and opposite numbers in Ottawa, Canberra, Paris, Berlin and elsewhere are concerned that the current unrest could degenerate into something that they cannot control or to a situation that threatens the economic and geopolitical strategic interests of international global monopoly capital;

At the other, reactionary, backward and right wing end of the ideological and political spectrum, there is a desperate fight back to revise the reality of the recent developments and create a counter-discourse that is characterized by the following hall marks:

(a) A strident attempt to force a shot gun marriage between Raila Odinga and Mwai Kibaki that will effectively legitimize the December 30th civilian coup and undermine the potency of Raila’s popular, national democratic bedrock of support around the country;

(b) A dishonest attempt to broker "peace" without paying attention to the blatant injustices perpetrated on the Kenya people by the stealing of the presidential election;

(c) A melodramatic campaign alleging that some specific communities are the subject of a "genocidal attack" as a convenient smokescreen to wish away the totalitarian acts of state terror and fascist reprisals against peaceful pro-democracy campaigners;

(d) A crass push for political realignments spearheaded by power hungry election losers like Kalonzo Musyoka and the majority of former government ministers who were trounced by ODM at the parliamentary elections.

Bearing in mind the patriotic and democratic consensus I spoke about above, let us look at the reactionary counter-discourse and its political implications.

I will deal with each factor in turn.

A strident attempt to force a shot gun marriage between Raila Odinga and Mwai Kibaki that will effectively legitimize the December 30th civilian coup and undermine the potency of Raila's popular, national democratic bedrock of support around the country;

In my opinion, those hankering for a so called "government of national unity" are those members and supporters of the PNU who realize that their leader Kibaki has lost all moral authority to govern this country. More importantly, they know that in parliament they simply DO NOT HAVE THE NUMBERS to form a legitimate working government that can enact laws and implement policies. Even though they have Kalonzo's ODM-K as their not so secret trump card, they do know also that Kalonzo Musyoka has been totally discredited as a national politician not just by his pathetic showing at the polls, his obscene pressures on the ECK to release fraudulent results, his opposition to an internationally brokered mediation process but most principally by his cynical horse-trading behind the scenes to ascend to the position of vice-president-this in an outfit that he spent his entire campaign trashing at every pit stop. Any attempt by Raila Odinga to even consider this possibility will thoroughly undermine Agwambo’s credibility and national stature especially in the aftermath of the stolen elections. If he did this it would confirm those slurs that all the Lang’ata MP is interested in is raw political power, devoid of any devotion to principles.

A dishonest attempt to broker "peace" without paying attention to the blatant injustices perpetrated on the Kenya people by the stealing of the presidential election;

A melodramatic campaign alleging that some specific communities are the subject of a "genocidal attack" as a convenient smokescreen to wish away the totalitarian acts of state terror and fascist reprisals against peaceful pro-democracy campaigners;

In many respects this is perhaps the most manipulative and devious of the counter-discourse being perpetrated by the PNU camp. It goes something like this:

Quote:Hundreds of innocent Gikuyu men, women and children have been slaughtered and thousands more forced to become internally displaced people as a direct result of the hatred whipped up by Raila Odinga and ODM and that the ethnic violence flows directly from ODM’s Majimbo/Ugatuzi electoral platform which they equate with rabid Kikuyuphobia.

While it is 100% correct to say that many, many members of the Agikuyu people have been direct victims and targets of ethnic specific violence and also true that thousands are now displaced and homeless, it takes a huge stretch of the imagination to sustain the allegation that Raila Odinga and ODM are behind the criminal attackers of innocent Agikuyu.

Facts are often not very convenient to those who want to make sweeping allegations unsupported by empirical evidence.

For instance, Raila Odinga went out of his way to plead for a peaceful, democratic and just determination of the contentious issues swirling around the controversial tabulation process leading to the announcement of the fake presidential results and he stressed that it would be very unfortunate and Kibaki and the powers that be would be held responsible if Kenya became another Ivory Coast. This demeanour is not consistent with a blood-thirsty tribal war monger who was intent on Kenya descending into an ethnic dystopia.

Moreover, the ODM was prevented, by bayonets, tear gas, live and rubber bullets to address its followers and pass them ANY KIND OF MESSAGE. Raila and the ODM leadership can hardly be now accused of "inciting" and "instigating" their followers when Michuki unleashed his triple fascist weapons: an effective gag on the media; an illegal ban on opposition rallies and the flooding of public and civil spaces with ferocious looking trigger happy members of the GSU and other security troops.

PART II

Judging by most objective media reports, the brutal attacks that targeted members of the Agikuyu all over the country were SPONTANEOUS acts of lumpen and often criminal mobs who vented their anger on innocent Kenyans whose only "crime" was sharing an ethnic background with Mwai Kibaki.

To take this a step further, let us examine closely the charges of "genocide" that have been bandied around by PNU zealots who want Kenyans to forget that all this violence was sparked off by the criminal and illegal announcement that Mwai Kibaki had been "elected" the country's fourth president.

I looked up the term “genocide” in the online encyclopedia Wikipedia and this is what I gleaned:

Genocide is the deliberate and systematic destruction of an ethnic, religious or national group. While precise definition varies among genocide scholars, the legal definition is found in the 1948 United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (CPPCG). Article 2 of the CPPCG defines genocide as "any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such: killing members of the group; causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life, calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; [and] forcibly transferring children of the group to another group."… Generally speaking, genocide does not necessarily mean the immediate destruction of a nation, except when accomplished by mass killings of all members of a nation. The objectives of such a plan would be the disintegration of the political and social institutions, of culture, language, national feelings, religion, and the economic existence of national groups, and the destruction of the personal security, liberty, health, dignity, and even the lives of the individuals belonging to such groups…...any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

(a) Killing members of the group;
(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group;

...The phrase "in whole or in part" has been subject to much discussion by scholars of international humanitarian law.[11] The International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia found in Prosecutor v. Radislav Krstic - Trial Chamber I - Judgment - IT-98-33 (2001) ICTY8 (2 August 2001)[12] that Genocide had been committed. In Prosecutor v. Radislav Krstic - Appeals Chamber - Judgment - IT-98-33 (2004) ICTY 7 (19 April 2004)[13] paragraphs 8, 9, 10, and 11 addressed the issue of in part and found that "the part must be a substantial part of that group. The aim of the Genocide Convention is to prevent the intentional destruction of entire human groups, and the part targeted must be significant enough to have an impact on the group as a whole." The Appeals Chamber goes into details of other cases and the opinions of respected commentators on the Genocide Convention to explain how they came to this conclusion.

The judges continue in paragraph 12, "The determination of when the targeted part is substantial enough to meet this requirement may involve a number of considerations. The numeric size of the targeted part of the group is the necessary and important starting point, though not in all cases the ending point of the inquiry. The number of individuals targeted should be evaluated not only in absolute terms, but also in relation to the overall size of the entire group. In addition to the numeric size of the targeted portion, its prominence within the group can be a useful consideration. If a specific part of the group is emblematic of the overall group, or is essential to its survival, that may support a finding that the part qualifies as substantial within the meaning of Article 4 [of the Tribunal's Statute]."[14][15]

In paragraph 13 the judges raise the issue of the perpetrators' access to the victims: "The historical examples of genocide also suggest that the area of the perpetrators’ activity and control, as well as the possible extent of their reach, should be considered. ... The intent to destroy formed by a perpetrator of genocide will always be limited by the opportunity presented to him. While this factor alone will not indicate whether the targeted group is substantial, it can - in combination with other factors - inform the analysis."

I have deliberately quoted such a huge chunk to inform the debate around the question of whether a case can be made that what is happening in Kenya today is genocide.

In my opinion, I think it is RECKLESS and DISHONEST to further inflame passions in the already taut Kenyan crisis by making sweeping statements about genocide in Kenya whereas the facts seems to suggest that among the poor in the cities and countryside there have been widespread criminal acts of murder, rape, looting, plunder and even ethnic cleansing TARGETING specific tribes among them the Agikuyu, especially in the Rift Valley.

This ethnic targeting include the case of a Kikuyu mob torching houses in Kikuyu Township inhabited by Luhyas and non-GEMA communities; Kisiis being singled out for allegedly voting for the President; Luos in Kibera and elsewhere being killed and forcibly circumcised by gangs allegedly associated with the dreaded Mungiki sect.

All of these ethnic specific terror attacks are reprehensible and should be condemned by ALL Kenyans irrespective of their political affiliations.

In other words it is patently DISHONEST to suggest that it is only the Agikuyu who are being targeted.

Let us also put the current violence in perspective.

Who is responsible for the highest number of civilian casualties?

Marauding Luo mobs?

Wrong answer.

Vengeful Kikuyu gangs?

Wrong again.

Enraged Kalenjin warriors?

One again, wrong answer.

Here is the truth:

The highest number of deaths has been caused by the STATE itself, working at the behest of masterminds who want to “protect” the illegal Kibaki usurpation.

Judging the bullet riddled bodies in hospitals across the country, it is clear that it is the police and the paramilitary who are responsible for most of the killings so far.

A report carried on Page 9 of the Monday, January 07, 2008 edition of the Standard accuses the police of shooting minors in the western city of Kisumu and its environs.

Eight year old Loreen Awuor testifies that she was sitting inside her home in Koru when a group of police officers broke in and shot her-threatening to come back.

Washington Odhiambo who is only eleven reports that he was shot in the abdomen after a lorry full of GSU paramilitary troops fired shots at Kona Mbaya in the Manyatta neighbourhood of Kisumu.

Kevin Otieno, 13, was shot in the thigh by AP cops at Kibuye Market on the 6th of January.

My own brother told me about four days ago that he personally went to the New Nyanza Hospital where he counted ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY BODIES, most of them bullet riddled and including several INFANTS.

How many civilians have been shot dead in Kibera and other parts of Nairobi?

Were they all looters, murderers and rapists?

And even if they were suspected criminals, is it lawful in Kenya for police to shoot to kill with impunity?

Related to the above, even though there is substantial evidence that the police and paramilitary TARGETED Luos in Kisumu, Migori, Homa Bay and other areas, I would personally still hesitate before I built up a case of genocide against the police.

There is simply insufficient evidence for me or anybody to claim that those cops were out there to FINISH OFF MEMBERS OF THE LUO COMMUNITY from the face of the earth.

The cops were there on a brutal fascist mission:

to suppress any forms of popular dissent and protest-and I think it is IRRESPECTIVE of the ethnicity of the protestor as can be evidenced by similar police brutality in Mombasa, Kakamega, Bungoma, Eldoret and other Kenyan towns and neighbourhoods.

Why then the claims of Agikuyu particularism when it is a fact that ALL THE INNOCENT VICTIMS were KENYANS and that each and every one of their lives was precious and did not deserve to be lost, especially on account of one’s tribal background?

For me, I think, and I repeat, it is a disingenuous and ultimately DECEPTIVE attempt to shift the FOCUS from the immediate cause of all the violence-Kibaki's civilian coup-to a preoccupation with victims of one particular community.

The end goal is to let Kibaki off the hook and coerce Kenyans into believing that "We" as in ALL Kenyans are somehow to "blame" for the aftermath of the stolen election fiasco and fracas.

Well, some of us ARE NOT BUYING that manipulative argument because it is simply not held up by the reality on the ground.

Let us remember:

Before Kibaki was illegally and unjustly announced as the fake “winner” of the Presidential poll, NOT A SINGLE LIFE HAD BEEN LOST because of the election results- and I am not forgetting that up to 100 people had lost their lives in pre-election violence before December 27, 2007.

And both in the local and international media it is often overlooked that at the same time as the Eldoret church atrocity was being played out by murderous mobs, Moi's farm in the Rift Valley was being torched so we must remember that NOT all the attacks were necessarily ethnic.

Moi was a CLASS target because the people who attacked his property were fellow Kalenjins.

A crass push for political realignments spearheaded by power hungry election losers like Kalonzo Musyoka and the majority of former government ministers who were trounced by ODM at the parliamentary elections.

It has been pathetic watching election losers like Musikari Kombo, Raphael Tuju, Suleiman Shakombo, Mukhisa Kituyi, George Nyamweya, Moody Awori and of course Mwai Kibaki MASQUERADE as the “government” of the day when the reality is that they ALL lost their jobs on election day.

It has been even more comical following the empty grandstanding of Kalonzo Musyoka, Mutula Kilonzo and other members of the also ran ODM-K posse pontificating on the future of Kenya even as they shamelessly lobby for positions in the same Kibaki regime that they boasted loudly of vanquishing at the polls.

The attempts of PNU poll robber barons and the shifty schemers in ODM-K to cobble together a "coalition government" is the SECOND attempt to subvert the democratic will of the Kenyan voters who overwhelmingly rejected BOTH PNU and ODM-K.

The next government should and must be formed by the ODM whose 100 seats (give or take one) plus the 3 from NARC and the couple from UDM and other friendly parties gives them the DEMOCRATIC and LEGAL mandate to form the next government with the popularly elected Raila Odinga at the helm of this government.

Let us recap the patriotic, progressive and democratic consensus I spoke about at the beginning of this essay:

If we start with the last bullet point about the major players in the capitals of capital being concerned about events in Kenya because of their geo-political strategic and ideological interests, it then behooves Kenyans of a democratic and patriotic mien to transcend these imperialist interests even as we lobby the same capitals of capital to isolate the Election Thief Mwai Kibaki.

We must craft our own immediate and long term democratic agenda that is not simply a carbon copy of the West’s blue print for Kenya. This may very well mean expanding the spaces of contest to incorporate AND go beyond the immediate ODM locus as we insist, campaign for and struggle together for the restoration of democratic rule in our country.

Progressive Kenyans, especially those of us who are socialist and part of the Left must do much more to expose the agenda of the tiny Kenyan comprador/petit bourgeois business elite (generally pro-PNU) who preach a vacuous “peace” devoid of Truth and Justice.

We must educate, sensitize and galvanize the poor and especially the lumpen elements to rise above and move away from the parochial, backward tribal mindsets which makes them conceive of the "enemy" in destructive and violent ETHNIC TERMS. There is a lot of work to be done here and it will have to involve faith leaders, women, peace makers, musicians, artists, athletes and sports people, mediators and those with conflict resolution and conflict transformation skills and experiences.

We as progressive, patriotic and democratic Kenyans must immediately do the groundwork to form A NATIONAL MOVEMENT built on the four cornerstones of PEACE, DEMOCRACY, TRUTH and JUSTICE.

The bedrock of this movement should be Kenya’s youth, the women, all democrats and anti-imperialists and not forgetting the huge community of patriotic Kenyans abroad.

This movement should be publicly launched before the end of January 2008 and it should have as it main immediate goal:

The removal of the illegal Kibaki civilian junta which usurped power during the infamous December 30th Coup.

Grace Githuthwa heard the attackers before she saw them. They were singing war songs, running from two sides towards the church compound where she and 200 others were sheltering from the violence. She grabbed her four children and ran inside the Kenya Assemblies of God Pentecostal church.

The hundreds of youths from the Kalenjin tribe armed with bows and arrows and machetes easily overpowered the few Kikuyu men and turned on the women and children.
"They started cutting the church door with a panga [machete]," Githuthwa said. "They were from around here, and even knew some of our names. We kneeled down and surrendered. It was quiet, as we were all praying. We knew this was the end."

Mattresses soaked with paraffin were pushed through the windows and used to block the door. Matches were thrown in.

As the fire engulfed the wooden building, the women grabbed their children and jumped through the burning windows. Githuthwa pushed her two elder children out of the window, and then climbed out holding her three-year-old daughter, Miriam, in her arms.

The Kalenjin youths were waiting outside, "cutting people like firewood" as they emerged.

"They snatched Miriam from me and threw her back into the fire," said Githuthwa, as she returned to the church, near Eldoret, hoping Miriam had survived.

Smoke was still rising from the embers. A dozen blackened bicycles were stacked neatly against what had been the wall of the church. Tin cups were strewn across the ground. There was a child's shoe, a woman's sandal, a bible. In the small cooking hut alongside the church, burned but not completely destroyed, lay corncobs and beans that were being prepared for lunch when the attack started.

In the far corner of the church lay three bodies. They were charred beyond recognition, all apparently children. They lay on their sides. As policemen stood guard, five Red Cross workers wearing surgical gloves and facemasks moved the bodies on to blankets. Soon there were 12 corpses lying side by side, all but one of them children, a few of them babies. One of them was probably Miriam. Her mother broke down in tears.

Two blankets, one brown, one purple, were taken from the belongings strewn across the compound and laid over the bodies.

The search continued amid the debris at the far end of the church. Another body soon emerged. Another child. On the road outside the church compound, flanked by tall cypress trees, lay two more corpses. A man in a suit was spreadeagled on his back. On the side of his head was a gaping machete wound. Next to him was a woman with grey hair. There were slash marks on her torso.

In the cornfield 50 metres away lay two more bodies, one a partly burned man with a leg disfigured by polio. There were 17 bodies in all; there could have been more nearby.

A second woman approached the church. Margaret Muthoni, 38, was looking for her six-year-old niece, Miriam Ngendo.

"I was carrying her out of the church, but she fell," Muthoni said. "I had my six children with me and we had to run for safety. I could not go back for her."

She walked over to the bodies and lifted one of the blankets. Then she began to scream, a terrible, grief-laden scream, and dropped to her knees.

A few miles away, the road was littered with obstructions every few hundred metres: trees, telephone poles and large rocks forced cars on to the verge, where youths with clubs and knives were sitting.

At Ngeria Junction, hundreds of angry youths and men, all Kalenjin, gathered. They said they felt cheated by the election, awarded in dubious circumstances to President Mwai Kibaki over opposition leader Raila Odinga. They wanted revenge, and it was Kibaki's Kikuyu ethnic group, who were going to suffer.

Asked if they knew about the church massacre, all the youths nodded. "We were there," said one man, who said his name was Patrick. "We got a message that the Kikuyus were arming near the church. So we went to give reinforcements to the Kalenjins there."

Another man carried on: "The men and women had babies and small children, but they carried pangas to defend themselves. Is someone with a panga innocent? It is not our custom to kill women and children. We told them to come out of the church, but they locked the door and refused to come out. So we burned them."

A third youth spoke. "They were not worshipping in the church. They were hiding. That makes it a cave not a church. Let Kibaki send a plane for the Kikuyus. They can go ... or they will be killed."

Several more men confirmed that youths from this village had helped carry out the attack.

The fear and confrontation extended across much of the Rift Valley region. Baraton, a young Kikuyu student from the University of East Africa, spoke from a mobile phone. She could not leave her room, she said. Since election day, Kalenjin youths, some of them her classmates, had started threatening all the Kikiyus and Kisiis - also accused of supporting Kibaki - on campus.

A gift of a cow and then a bull had satisfied them for only a day or two. But they had started fires outside the main gate, and were demanding identification cards from anyone passing through. "We desperately need the police to come and protect us," she said.

The fear cut across ethnic lines; most Kalenjins had nothing to do with the violence, and the fear of reprisals was growing. Moses, a Kalenjin in the Nandi Hills, sent a text message: "No transpot. Road blocked with stons. Electrisity disconnected. No car fuel. Houses still baning and robary. We r so scared."

At the New Heuvel petrol station in Cheptiret, telephone poles were laid across the road. Dozens of men stood around, many of them holdings bows with quivers full of metal-tipped arrows slung across their backs. Suddenly they pulled back, crouching in ditches and behind walls, their bow-strings taut, only relaxing when the approaching police announced its peaceful intention.

As a few of the Kalenjin men approached the vehicle, Chief Inspector Salesiho Njiru said: "These people don't need a harsh tone. We are just going to try to negotiate a way through."

Rugut Brigen, an assistant university lecturer, told Njiru that the bodies of two Kikuyu men lay beside a burned-out minibus a few hundred metres on. They were killed on Monday, and Brigen wanted police to remove the bodies.

"The people stoned them when they did not slow down for our roadblock," he said. "They could not control their anger at the election result."

In front of the minibus, several truck trailers blocked the way. On either side of the road were more than 1,000 armed men, who occasionally broke into a war song. Keeping them in check was their leader, "Michael", who works for an international aid agency.

At a single shouted word everyone sat down. "We are not going to have a ceasefire until the true results are announced," he told the police. Nobody should try to stop them until then, he said.

The district officer, a Luo from Odinga's ethnic group, had been killed by an arrow the day before after shooting a boy in the leg.

"Today, it is bows and arrows. In three days, if Kibaki has not resigned, we will have guns from Uganda ," said Michael.

Several army vehicles arrived, and after tense negotiations, it was agreed that they could escort a long line of vehicles through the town, driving slowly as the Kalenjin men, their clubs, knives and bows at their sides, looked on.

Among those fleeing by car was Moses Maina, 36, a Kikuyu. He had already sent his wife and children by air to Nairobi after chartering a plane with several other families.

"I was born in Eldoret," said Moses, glancing nervously towards the burned-out minibus. "My father came here in 1950. This is my home, and now I am are running away from it. Where am I supposed to go."

Michael said that was not his problem. "The Kikuyus were treated like guests in the Rift Valley, but Kibaki let them down. It is over. We can never trust them again. We will never let them come back," he said.

Another Sad Day in Kenya: Dictator Kibaki's Illegitimate Cabinet Announced!

Talk of total greed and madness!

Why are we lying to ourselves and the rest of the world that Mwai Kibaki wants peace in Kenya? Why are we lying that Kibaki wants democracy in Kenya? Why are we lying that Kibaki wants a Government of National Unity? His urges and excesses are driving him and the country down the tubes! He has degenerated into an insensitive and ruthless dictator who cares less about what the people of Kenya want!

His hasty action of naming an illegitimate government confirms the fact that he is bend on being the president of Kenya no matter what happens. It confirms the fact that he does not care about the views or feelings of the majority of Kenyan voters who voted him and majority of his supporters out. He does not care about the future of Kenya! After all, he has already lived his life! Expecting Kibaki to keep a pledge is being naive. He will break every pledge that he makes without a whim. All he cares about is himself and his selfish-interests.

As a result of his actions, this is what is going to follow:

1. Tribal tensions will escalate to levels never witnessed before.
2. Feelings by majority of the Kenyan ethnic groups, especially the Luo, that Kibaki's dominant Kikuyu tribe has always given them a raw deal when it comes to the management, distribution, and utilization of resources and opportunities, will reach unparalled levels.
3.Violence is going to tripple in the country!
4. Guerilla warfare will become an option for many who feel cheated, frustrated and oppressed by an illegitimate regime.

This is what the international community can do to save Kenya:

1.Stop giving preferential treatment to Mwai Kibaki when he is an enemy of democracy in Kenya, Africa and the world at large.
2.Call on Mwai Kibaki to step down immediately.
3.Call for another Presidential election in Kenya overseen by an international body.
4.Institute a freeze on travel visas for Kibaki and his family members.
5. Institute a freeze on travel visas on members of his illegitimate government.
6. Freeze certain aid grants to Kenya.
7. Recall a number of key diplomatic staff from Kenya.

President Mwai Kibaki has named a 17 member cabinet with ODM-Kenya leader Mr Kalonzo Musyoka as the Vice-President. Kibaki addressed the nation live on national broadcaster Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).

Kibaki named the cabinet despite the existing political crisis over the disputed presidential elections of 27th December 2007.

Sad! Kibaki Joining Amin,Bokasa, Ibrahim Babangida, Mobutu Sese Seko, Kamuzu Banda etc!

The personalities of leaders like Nguema, Idi Amin, Kamuzu Banda, Ibrahim Babangida, D.Arap Moi, Jean Bedel-Bokassa, and Mobutu Sese Seko provide fascinating patterns and models for research into the African traits and idiosyncracies. They form the caricature of the African in the minds of outsiders who see Africa as one inhabited by persons of lesser mental capabilities and people completely incapable of governing themselves!
What is happening in Kenya, gives the alignment and realignment of political forces mostly at the domestic level. At the core of it all is the continuing imperialist exploitation of Kenya by a largely unproductive and irresponsible dominant class. The unfortunate result is the further marginalization, exploitation, impoverishment, domination, and denigration of poor Kenyans by the rich Kenyans. Am sorry to say that these leaders are a total disgrace to Kenyans and Africans in general.
Leading scholars like Chinua Achebe and Ngugi Wa Thiong’o and thousands of top minds have fled Kenya and the continent of Africa voluntarily or otherwise because of the corruption, repression, and mindlessness of our so-called leaders. There are thousands of young Kenyans scattered all over America and Europe today roaming the streets, in jail, prostituting, or engaged in menial and degrading jobs all in an effort to survive because of greedy, irresponsible and power-hungry leaders back at home. It kills me to imagine that some of the most arrogant and selfish leaders that are a stumbling block to the realization of true democracy in Kenya like Uhuru Kenyatta have never passed a single exam in any institution of learning despite all the advantages that they were born with.
Kibaki and Michuki need to understand that brutalization, domination, manipulation, exploitation, and marginalization of poor Kenyans will never build Kenya. If anything, it only serves to breed hatred, anger, acrimony and bloodshed. Kibaki’s advisors like Prof. Nick Wanjohi (who taught me the causes of civil disobedience!) need to help Kibaki to analyze the antecedents of a people’s revolution. They need to open his eyes to clarify and understand the complex and shifting positions of the various interest groups that surround him. The wanton abuse of human rights, the appropriation of state power and its resources, and hostility to popular and progressive forces will not help Kenya one bit. It will only catapult Kenya into denigration, tribalism, pity, and exploitation.
In 1789, the regime of King Louis XVI of France was brought down, partly by its own rigidity in the face of a changing world, partly by the ambitions of a rising bourgeoisie, allied with aggrieved peasants and wage-earners and with individuals of all classes who were influenced by the ideas of the enlightenment. Kibaki is just helping to propagate the notion that Kenya and Africa is nothing but a region where nothing good happens, where no new ideas can develop, and which is inhabited by rapacious politicians, blood-sucking generals and a people criminally addicted to blood and mayhem.
By being arrogant and selfish, the Kenyan leaders are just aiding the deliberate conspiracy in the Western media to continue propagating the terrible picture of Kenya and Africa abroad and to satisfy the warped entertainment demands of a generally uninformed public to continue the historical denigration and marginalization of African-Americans as descendants of barbarians and as people who should thank their gods that “kind” Europeans brought them out of the jungles as slaves for mindless and genocidal exploitation as slaves.
Beneficiaries of the Kibaki system have no business preaching non-violence as a response to a violent, illegitimate, tribalistic, and exploitative Central Province power since they see no violence in social formations characterized by increasing class and social differentiations, where the ownership and control of the means of economic production are clearly reflective of one tribe!
Our duty right now is to come up with an ideology that transcends class and social locations in the production and power relations and to assume the existence of a spiritual or material unity just because it concerns Kenyans. We have to fight to terminate the natural processes of tribalism and class.
The colony of Saint-Domingue, geographically roughly the same land mass that is today Haiti, was the richest colony in the West Indies and probably the richest colony in the history of the world. It was driven by slave labor and enabled by fertile soil and ideal climate. Saint-Domingue produced sugar, coffee, cocoa, indigo, tobacco, cotton, sisal as well as some fruits and vegetables for her motherland, France. Unfortunately, there were classes in that country. The wealthy wanted to oppress the poor forever. When the poor people decided to revolt, things took a negative turn forever!
The past dozen years of warfare in West Africa have led to the death, injury, and mutilation of hundreds of thousands of people and the displacement of millions more. It can happen to Kenya too. The Tutsi monopolized all administrative positions in the Central African countries of Rwanda and Burundi for decades. They thought they would dominate the Hutu and the Twa forever. This was not to be the case. When the dominated groups felt that they could not take in anymore, they revolted. The 1994 genocide in Rwanda was just a culmination of events wrapped up in historical journals.
Let me reiterate the fact that the future of Kenya will look a hundred times worse than the dismal present unless Kibaki, Raila, and their followers take seriously the lives of the Kenyans, their empowerment, and the total democratization of Kenya.

Kibaki Must Step Down!

In recognition of this fact, the European Union, Britain, and the United States have refused to recognize the Kibaki government as legitimate.

As members of the international community, we do not intend to allow this blatant act of disregard for the rule of law and for the will of the people of Kenya to go unchallenged.

The list of evidence of election irregularities compiled in this petition contains widely known facts and has been corroborated by various news sources.

1) All polls taken before the election favored Raila Odinga and his party, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), with Odinga leading Kibaki by a margin of 4%. A mid-December report by the government's own intelligence service gave Raila Odinga an even larger lead of 8% to 15% over Mwai Kibaki. As the election drew near, the Steadman poll, which is conducted under the leadership of George Waititu, a close friend of Kibaki's, showed Kibaki catching up to Odinga although the total for the three leading candidates added up to 101%.

2) The Kenyan National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) reported that Muslim voters, most of whom were expected to favor Raila Odinga, were denied voter cards in the leadup to the election.

3) Prior to the election, Raila Odinga warned that Mwai Kibaki and his party planned to illegally deploy Administrative Police (AP) as poll agents for the purpose of intimidating voters. While Mwai Kibaki originally denied these allegations, subsequent events showed that Odinga was correct--the East African Standard reported that 65,000 APs were in fact illegally deployed to various parts of the country.

4) Prior to the election, the impartiality and credibility of the Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK) was jeopardized by Mwai Kibaki's control over the appointment of foreign observers. The East African Standard reported that ECK Chairman Samuel Kivuitu had himself accused the Kibaki "government of selectively inviting international observers for the December polls." Member of Parliament William Ruto of ODM also voiced concern, stating that "Kibaki has gone against a precedence that even brought him to power. The President alone has appointed ECK commissioners. He alone has picked foreign observers. When you put these two issues in the wider picture of the run-up to elections, you see we have a reason to doubt the fairness of the coming polls."

5) Early in the election, when Raila Odinga went to cast his vote at a polling station in his constituency of Langata, he found that his name was missing from the poll register. Furthermore, names beginning in 'A,' 'E' and 'O'--traditionally Luo and Luhya names--were missing.

6) Raila Odinga's ODM party firmly secured the Parliament, winning more than 45% percent of parliamentary seats--that is, at least 95 out of 210 electable seats--compared to Mwai Kibaki's PNU party which secured only 37 seats in total and lost 22 of its original 32 seats. The ouster of the majority of Kibaki's cabinet was regarded by many as a bold statement to the degree to which the majority of the electorate had lost confidence in the Kibaki administration.

7) In Garsen, a mob destroyed 35 ballot boxes on suspicion of rigging.

8) One constituency, Maragwa, reported 115% voter turnout.

9) Although voting ended on Thursday, December 27, the announcement of results from some polling stations was delayed for more than two days because:
a) The aforementioned irregularities compelled numerous complaints from candidates of both parties.
b) ECK returning officers from disputed polling stations could not be located by Kivuitu and had turned off their cell phones.

10) Samuel Kivuitu, chairman of the Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK), himself acknowledged that the delay would have allowed time for these missing officials or others to rig votes. "This is where cooking could be taking place," said Kivuitu.

11) The ECK failed to address the majority of these concerns raised by Raila Odinga, his ODM party, and the general public and proceeded to announce the obviously illegitimate results, thereby failing in its responsibility to the people of Kenya and lending validity to the debacle.

12) After the ECK announced the results, declaring Mwai Kibaki the winner, the East African Standard reported that an ECK officer alleged that there had been "blatant and shameless alteration of documents" primarily by "information technology officials." This officer said that the Coast and upper Eastern provinces were most affected by rigging, but also named the constituencies of Moyale, Laisamis, Saku and Matuga.

13) A Reuters article also quoted an "election observer who asked not to be named" as having "very little doubt" that the election was rigged.

14) Furthermore, before Kivuitu declared Mwai Kibaki the winner, Alexander Graf Lambsdorff, chief European Union election monitor, stated that there was ``a big question mark over the tallying of results.''

15) After Kivuitu declared Mwai Kibaki the winner, Lambsdorff repeated his misgivings. "We regret that it has not been possible to address irregularities about which both the EU and the ECK have evidence ... some doubt remains as to the accuracy of the result of the presidential election as announced today," said Lambsdorff.

16) Lambsdorff has again gone on record as saying that the tallying process lacked credibility.

17) Prior to Mwai Kibaki's secretive swearing in ceremony, the Kenyan government suspended all live television broadcasts. Coverage of post-election violence, including the government's use of armed police in suppressing demonstrators, has therefore been difficult to verify. In view of the above irregularities, this has had the effect of further eroding any semblance of democracy.

18) Finally, tallies reported by the ECK differed from those announced at polling stations and on television news broadcasts. The New York Times reports that, "The European Union said its observers in one constituency last week witnessed election officials announce that President Kibaki had won 50,145 votes, but on Sunday the election commission increased those same results to 75,261 votes."

Taken as a whole, this evidence is more than enough to declare the presidency of Mwai Kibaki illegitimate and to install the legitimate winner, Raila Odinga, into that office.

The international community is very much aware that Mwai Kibaki and his Party of National Unity (PNU) rigged the December 2007 Kenyan presidential election. In recognition of this fact, the European Union, Britain, and the United States have refused to recognize the Kibaki government as legitimate.

In light of the aforementioned evidence, we, the undersigned, condemn Mwai Kibaki's theft of the Kenyan presidency. We recognize Mwai Kibaki's actions as a declaration of war on the opposition and hold him responsible for the ethnic bloodshed that has proceeded from this heist of the presidency.

We do not condone violence and urge all parties to avoid violence. Instead we urge for peaceful protests and negotiations and non-violent protests.

Nonetheless, we demand that Mwai Kibaki abdicate the office of the President of Kenya and that the legitimate winner, Raila Odinga, be instated into that office immediately. In the interest of peace, we respectfully request your assistance in ensuring that this affront to democracy is repudiated and nullified.

Kibaki's Rejected Stooges Admit that the Whole Election Was Flawed!

Kibaki's stooges who were rejected by the voters have just announced on KBC TV that the elections were flawed all over the country. Dr.Mukhisa Kituyi and Mr. Raphael Tuju have even read out "figures" to prove that the voter turn-out in many constituencies was more than 100%. In essence the election results cannot be accepted by Kenyans!

This is more reason for an independent, credible and international body to take over from the ECK and chart the way forward. The issue of there being a legal process in Kenya that can address cases of election malpractice is mute. Who can trust the current Kenyan Judges, who are mostly Kibaki appointees, to be fair and neutral when handling such cases?

So we reiterate, there is no legitimate government in Kenya! There is no legitimate president in Kenya!

Most Kenyan voters in the just-concluded General election gave their votes for a democratic candidate. Many of them decided not to be apolitical. Many of them would not normally go to vote, but Hon.Raila Amolo Odinga and the Orange Democratic Movement won their respect over the past years when they stood up against corruption and tribalism and championed real change in the governance of our country.

All of us know that Mwai Kibaki could never have had support outside Central province even in 2002 were it not for Hon Raila Odinga who turned the masses to support him when he declared “Kibaki Tosha”. Kibaki’s billions which he has amassed through corruption (I hope all of you remember Mr.10%) could not translate into votes so he had no chance of becoming the president of Kenya. Dr.Chris Murungaru can bear me out on this!

Most people knew that according to the results of exit polls and the legally counted and verified votes in most constituencies save for those in Kibaki’s Central province, the People’s candidate had won so we went to bed or stayed up all night strongly believing that our vote meant something and had made a contribution to the future of our country.

On the evening of December 30th 2007, the Chairman of the Electoral Commission of Kenya, Mr.Samuel Kivuitu declared Mwai Kibaki the winner of the 2007 polls and he was immediately sworn in at State House gardens, Nairobi. The people’s election had been stolen! Kenyans have taken this as a grave insult and they have sworn not to allow their votes to mean nothing!

Right now the corrupt ECK Officials cannot face the people of Kenya but every drop of blood that is shed will hound them forever. Every life that is lost because of the violence that is taking place across the country must be blamed on them. Right now Mwai Kibaki cannot face the people of Kenya unlike in 2002 when he was cheered by millions of Kenyans as he took oath for office. The government buildings are empty and the ones that have a few officials inside are guarded because there is no legitimate government in Kenya right now.

Mr.Samuel Kivuitu, Mr.Kihara Muttu and all the ECK Officials have committed a great crime against the people of Kenya and they all deserve to be charged with treason! Both Kivuitu and Kihara Muttu know that in law, treason is the crime that covers some of the more serious acts of disloyalty to one's sovereign nation. They have made war against the people of Kenya. They have seriously injured the consciences of innocent citizens. They have built mistrust among the people and facilitated ethnic animosity. They have betrayed their oath of office to guard and uphold the truth and the independence of the electoral process. They have eroded all the trust that the youth of Kenya had in the older generation. We cannot trust them anymore! They are traitors. They have betrayed all Kenyans. They do not care about Kenyans but Kibaki’s millionaire friends and relatives. The least they can do right now is to resign and pave way for another independent body to take over and try to cleanse the mess that they have created. Admitting the enormity of their crimes is not enough. Continuing to draw salaries for commiting such crimes is unimaginable!

Now this is our message to the fraud regime of Mwai Kibaki: You are not our president! You do not speak for us! We do not recognize you! You can torture us if you want, you can break our bones, you can kill us if you want but we will never recognize you as our president. We will fight your illegitimate regime to the last man!

ELECTORAL COMMISSION OF KENYA BREAKS RANKS AND DISAGREES OVER RESULTS

With the electoral commission having broken ranks and disagreed over the General election results, it only makes sense for those results to be nullified and another independent, credible, and internationally respected body to take over from them. It also means that we do not have official results from the just concluded General election. In that case, it is only logical that Mwai Kibaki steps down, otherwise he is now in office illegally! He does not have the mandate of anyone, not even the Electoral Commission of Kenya. The law of Kenya is very clear on what should happen in the absence of an elected president.

Thank God the US has come to her senses and "effectively retracted a statement from Washington that had congratulated Mr Kibaki on his victory by releasing a statement from its Nairobi embassy expressing concern about “serious problems experienced during the vote counting process”.

America’s Shame-State Department Congragulates Kibaki!!

As thousands of outraged Kenyans marched in protest against the blatant action by President Kibaki to steal an election, US State Department spokesperson, Robert Mcinturff, announced the Bush administration reaction to the theft: “The United States congratulates the winners.” Apparently, for President Bush democracy is equated with another government’s willingness to go along with his foreign policy of fighting terrorism. President Kibaki was a loyal supporter of Bush policies and therefore he must receive support, even though he stole an election. Over 100 Kenyans are dead, bodies in the morgue reveal multiple wounds since police have orders to shoot on sight. The police refused to allow supporters of Raila Odinga– who actually won the election — to leave the slum area of Kibera and fired on those seeking to conduct a mock swearing in ceremony for Odinga.

The Bush administration continues to claim it supports “democracy.” The brave people of Kenya went to the polls and voted for a democratic government. They voted out at least 20 ministers of the current Kibaki government, but the evidence was ignored. EU observers in one district noted the Kibaki count they saw was 25,000 less than the figure quoted by the Election Commission. In the war against terror, the victims invariably are those who stand up for democracy.

Will any of the current Democratic candidates speak up for the people of Kenya and blast the Bush administration?

KENYA: THE PEOPLE’S REVOLUTION HAS STARTED!

We are calling on all law-abiding Kenyans to join in the People’s Revolution led by the ODM.A grand march is planned for this coming Thursday 3rd 2008. It will be led by the people’s President, Raila Amolo Odinga.

Kibaki and his rich cronies will not have the last laugh. Democracy will triumph. Kenyans cannot be robbed off what they have fought and died for for the last 50 years! Kenya is bigger than Kibaki. Every voter and his/her vote must be respected. There is a new generation in Kenya today that cannot sit back and allow greedy old men to take away their rights with impunity. All the chaos, myhem, looting and destruction of lives and property that is going on in Kenya must be blamed on the greed of Kibaki. Wonder how many more lives he wants to see lost before he can acknowledge the will of the people.

On the other hand, we are calling on Honorable Kalonzo Musyoka not to commit political suicide by accepting to serve as Kibaki’s Vice President in this short-lived stint. By falling prey to Kibaki’s evil schemes he will be alienating himself and the Kamba community from the rest of Kenyans. All the goodwill that he has amassed will evaporate instantly. He should understand that the Central Province votes in the next General election will go to Uhuru Kenyatta and no one else thus being lured by the Mt.Kenya Mafia at this point is committing political suicide!

Today Hon.Kalonzo Musyoka called for a meeting between him, Hon.Raila Odinga and Hon.Mwai Kibaki. It is the prayer of many that he will continue on that path until justice is seen to be done for the Kenyan people.

Our appreciation goes to the men and women in the uniforms who have defied orders from Kibaki’s men to shoot and kill innocent wananchi who are demanding to be heard and respected. Our appreciation also goes to the civil servants who are supporting the revolution either silently or openly. Last but not least, we thank and appreciate the brothers and sisters in the neighboring countries who are on stand-by ready to come in and help us should there be need.

The Majority of the Men in the Military Want Kibaki Out!

The revolution in Kenya has reached a point of no return. In a few stormy days , the attempted imposition of Mwai Kibaki on the peaceful but vigilant people of Kenya and against the reformist Orange Democratic Movement led by Raila Amolo Odinga will come to an embarrassing end. Although on the surface Kibaki appears to be backed by the military generals, the truth of the matter is that many of our men and women in the armed forces and the para-military forces are against Kibaki’s unpopular move and they are going to join the people of Kenya in forcing Kibaki out of his self-proclaimed second term as the president of Kenya. Masses of Kenyans have started uprisings across the country and it’s just a matter of time before the whole country becomes ungovernable. There is a real inspiration among the seven provinces that overwhelmingly voted for change especially among the youth. We are on the ground and we will keep you posted on the developments here!

Subject: Kibaki was swon in 3 hours before the "LIVE KBC Broadcast"

The pressure continues to pile on the illegitimate regime in Kenya.

It is now emerging that the Ugandan army men are actually in Western Kenya (Western and Nyanza)and there are many more that have been sourced from that country (about 3,000) to prop up Kibaki, just incase.

You may be wondering why Michuki is now taking a hardline stance. At the rate things are going, we may be headed for a military solution. We are made to understand that Kibaki and his ilk had to seek the assistance of Museveni when the Kenya army defied orders to go out of the barracks to go and quell the civil unrest.

The rumour that General Kianga, Chief of General Staff (CGS) had resigned is no rumour. He did resign following a disagreement on how things were being done at Department of Defence army headquarters. He could not take it any more, that his junior a Gen.Njoroge was giving orders to the army and bypassing him!

However, on the other hand, the pro-ODM army units who are a majority were of the resolved opinion that should General Kianga quit and Gen.Njoroge take over as CGS then the army was bound to do something nasty.

It left the Kibaki group with no option but to plead with Gen.Kianga to stay on for another two or three months while they sorted things out. Gen Kianga has never categorically denied this allegation that he had resigned. Something he should have done were it not true.

If you did not know, Raila is most popular presidential material among the military ranks and police.

Based on these facts and a myriad other complications relating to the armed units of the country, the Uganda army is the only option and Museveni is more than willing to assist Kibaki having played the same game himself.

This development of inviting Uganda army into Kenya has irked the Kenya army so much and it may be one point for which they may never forgive Kibaki.

Real statesmen in Africa are far in between. Museveni, Moi and Kibaki do not qualify one iota.

The Michuki and Karua group were counting on the US support militarily and diplomatically, but with shifting of alliances and the firm position taken by the US government end of last week, they are feeling lost.

In the `mwoto mwoto;chini kwa chini' news networks, it is also emerging that Kibaki was sworn in at 2.00pm. What happened at 4:45pm as televised by KBC was a recorded version.

The Law Society of Kenya and the Kenya Human Rights Commission are so right in raising the issues relating to these illegality of Kibaki being in office.

And for the Wananchi, they are arguing (and rightfully so) that since the national anthem was not played when Kibaki was sworn in, he is not president yet.

I also read this observation in the press the other day that Kibaki did the wrong thing by not handing back the army sword that symbolizes state power before the winner of the election was announced. The army failed in its responsibility or was General Kianga frustrated?

In essence, what should have happened is that starting from the first date of the election period, Kibaki is supposed to have handed over the instruments of power as CIC to General Kianga. Very much the same way it was done during the Moi ˆ NARC transition. General Kibwana handled this very well, picture perfect.

General Kianga would have then handed over the instruments of Commander in Chief of the army to the winner of the election upon announcement of the winner by ECK. Thus, the ECK alerts the army boss, the army boss gets the parade and band ready. The instruments are then transferred formally at a designated ceremony.

But we are dealing with `wakora' here.

When Raila talks of a civilian coup de tat, many do not fathom the weightiness of that statement.

Kibaki and his ilk should know he is in quicksand.

Kenya is experiencing the biggest travesty of the law like no other ion the whole world!

The law apart, procedure was not followed.

Should the East Africa Court have been well in place, in power and structure; these are the kinds of issues that such an institution would handle.(Kenya Election Debacle)

Give up? Never; we won't!

It Is Either The Will of The People or Total War In Kenya!

It is very obvious right now that the Electoral Commission of Kenya led by Samuel Kivuitu is doctoring the election results with the aim of retaining President Mwai Kibaki in power. The people of Kenya have spoken clearly with their votes. If President Kibaki, Mr.Samuel Kivuitu and their power-hungry sycophants are candid and shameless enough to stand against the will of the Kenyan people, then let them hear this clearly from we the Kenyans: IT IS THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE THAT WILL PREVAIL IN KENYA! We are calling on all the Kenyans back at home and in the diaspora to take up their arms and pray for President Kibaki.
We want to STOP THE SENSELESS KILLING OF OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS. We want to channel our energy toward constructive causes and the rebuilding of our land. But if anyone wants to take away our right, we are going to resist.

Mwai Kibaki: Very Weak New Leader of Opposition in Kenya!

In considering the forces and institutions that enable democracy to flourish in the post-revolutionary Kenya, I would candidly pay particular attention to political associations and parties, which have identified themselves as being part of the new government that is coming in and the alliance called the Party of National Unity-PNU (the in-coming opposition) and the institutions of civil society.
There is no doubt that our political parties in Kenya have created democracy and modern democracy is unthinkable save in terms of the current political leaders. I can’t adequately stress the centrality of institutionalized party competition in any thriving nation in the world today. Democracy in a complex society may be defined as a political system which supplies regular constitutional opportunities for changing the governing officials, and a social mechanism which permits the largest possible part of the population to influence major decisions by choosing among contenders for political office--that is, through political parties. The existence of a strong and vibrant opposition -- in essence, an alternative government -- restrains incumbents. An opposition seeks to reduce the resources available to officeholders and to enlarge the rights.
My main worry now is that Kenya lacks a respectable and dependable opposition. Hon. Mwai Kibaki is supposed to take on the role of the Leader of Opposition, but going by his previous performance, it will be naïve for anyone to imagine that he can perform that role effectively especially given the fact that the incoming government is made up of young, energetic, intelligent, and experienced leaders. I do not have any doubt about the good intentions and motivations of the incoming leaders but most of us agree with Lord Acton who said “all power corrupts but Liberal power corrupts very liberally”.
Let us all pray that the Lord may raise up a new breed of leaders in the opposition who will be decisive, understanding of the concepts and facts of leadership, consistent and persistent in their desire to keep the government on its toes for the good of our beloved leaders and country.

Results just announced on KBC-Channel I say that Raila Odinga has recaptured the Langata seat.

Former Budalangi MP Raphael Wanjala was also defeated by a Nairobi based lawyer Ababu Namwamba of ODM. Namwamba got 11012 votes against Mr Wanjala 7180 votes in an election that was marked with high turnout.

Vice President Hon Moody Awori and ministers Mutahi Kagwe, Pau Sang, Musikari Kombo and Moses Akaranga emerged as the early casualties as vote counting for the hotly contested elections continued countrywide.

Results broadcast on KTN showed Awori lost the Funyula parliamentary seat to the ODM candidate Dr Paul Otuoma, becoming the second time in Kenya's history for a VP to lose a parliamentary seat. In 2002, Vice President Mr Musalia Mudavadi lost to Mr Moses Akaranga of Narc, a few months after he was appointed by President Moi. Uncle Moody as he is popularly known, has been Member of Parliament for Funyula constituency for the last 25 years, although his grip on Funyula politics spans over 45 years


Ford -Kenya chairman and former Webuye MP, Musikari Kombo, has lost the seat to Alfred Sambu of ODM. Preliminary results indicated that Trade and Industry minister Dr Mukhisa Kituyi trailing.

Information and Communications minister Mutahi Kagwe has lost to former chairman of Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company Mr Kabando wa Kabando of Safina party. Kagwe initiated many development projects in his Mukurweini constituency, both through the CDF concept and from his own initiative and it will puzzle many people how his opponent, Kabando wa Kabando pulled the carpet from under his feet.

Health Minister Paul Sang has lost former State House Comptroller Mr Frankline Bett of ODM. Sang was appointed to the position just two months to the election after Kibaki's ally and Health Minister, Charity Ngilu, declared her support for ODM presidential candidate Mr Raila Odinga.

Other results show ODM Pentagon member and Raila Odinga's running mate, Mr Musalia Mudavadi, has trounced Public Service minister Moses Akaranga of PNU. Najib Balala has won the Mvita seat , beating former Mombasa mayor Taib Ali Taib.

Former Keiyo South MP and Kanu strongman Nicholas Biwott lost the seat to Mr Jackson Kiptanui of ODM. In Ugenya constituency, lawyer James Orengo will make a political come back after clinching the seat he lost in 2002.

However, ECK has not officially released the results. We will bring you more results as we get them.
